Oilers in Tennessee
By Michael Sudhalter
I’m nostalgic for old sports teams/logos, but it was odd to visit Nashville, Tenn. last week and see the home stadium of the Tennessee Titans — LP Field – honoring former Houston Oilers players.
The Oilers left Houston after the 1996 season and spent two years as the Tennessee Oilers before becoming the Titans in 1999.
It’s odd that Earl Campbell’s No. 34 is retired inside LP Field. He probably never played a down on football in the state of Tennessee — unless the Longhorns had a road game there.
Or to walk into the team store and see Oilers retro gear.
To add insult to injury, the Titans are going to wear Oilers throwback uniforms this season, for the first time.
It’s too bad that Bud Adams not only took the team, but it’s history and memorablia along with him.
At least Houstonians have the memories.
